Plant biotechnology Genome mapping

The molecular improvement of plants requires a thorough understanding of the molecular basis of important plant processes and the identification and characterization of genes conferring agronomically important traits. During the past fifteen years, great development of molecular and cellular studies in plants including the molecular mapping of plant genomes has been performed. The concept of DNA markers based on polymerase chain reaction has revolutionized the study of chromosome segments, including minute regions, and has led to new opportunities such as map-based cloning and plant breeding.
